Arthritis is described as a chronic irritation, inflammation, and eventually degeneration of a joint. This can occur in almost any joint in your body but is most common in knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and hands. Oftentimes the inflammatory processes of arthritis can cause excessive swelling of the joint and lead to pain and erosive changes. If left untreated degeneration continues to the joint and breaks down the cartilage used to protect the joint.
