Sciatica is caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve from a herniated disc at a specific location in the lumbar spine. This is commonly referred to as a “pinched nerve”. For most people the pain from sciatica an interfere with daily life and can be debilitating. Others feel pain that may be infrequently.

Common Symptoms:
- Pain in the buttocks and or leg that is worse while sitting
- Burning and tingling down the leg
- Weakness or numbness in the leg or foot
- A constant pain on the side of the buttocks
- Shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up straight
- Sharp pain with sneezing or coughing
Treatment For Sciatica
Spinal Manipulation
Manual or instrument assisted technique that is used to re-establish joint motion in the spine. A technique used to manage musculoskeletal dysfunction by restoring motion to the specific joints and improving mobility of the spine.
Stretching
This is a technique, when used properly, can be a very powerful tool to help our patients recover from injury. There are times when stretching is indicated, and there are times when it is not. Active stretching techniques have shown to create improved results for patients recovering from injury, and when preparing to perform.

This technique uses different frequencies of electrical current to help our tissues heal. When used correctly, we can release pain fighting hormones that help to decrease pain with short and long term effects. E-stim can also be used to help build strength.
Spinal Decompression Therapy
This is a technique that is used to relieve compressive stress on the discs throughout the spine. This technique can be very help and alleviate a large amount of pain and tension in the low back when indicated. This technique can be done manually or with instrument assistance.
Extremity Mobilization
Manual or instrument-assisted technique that is used to re-establish joint motion in a specific area of the body. This helps to increase mobility and decrease pain.
